OBLIGATION AND INTEREST
Two bedfellows that don’t belong together.
How many times have you felt “obligated” to do something? And hated every minute of it? I guess, with life, there’s always a measure of obligation, like, you do have to pay your bills and breathe and get dressed, but if one makes a habit of being “obliged” to perform a task for someone when you just don’t want to, it becomes enslaving. You know how you can tell when it’s an obligatory thing? When you start making excuses as to why you’re not doing such and so, or I can’t go because, or I have to take my dog to the vet or or or.
Ever get through a number of days or even a life and wonder where it went? What did I do with it? And why? Where was I? This comes when you’ve obligated yourself to something or someone. Become a slave to it or him/them. Where did pleasure go? With that obligation. Straight down the tubes.
Life should be a pleasure, actually. You should want to do what you’re doing, ideally every moment. Well, that’s a pretty steep goal, I have to admit. But aiming in that direction is not so steep, if you train yourself to listen to what YOU want to do, be or have. You only really have one obligation, and that’s to yourself. Pure and simple.
You, the artist, had better never feel obligated to do something, especially with your art. You will pay dearly every time you do. You will lose a piece of yourself and your integrity by selling yourself off by settling for something not really wanted. Hoboy! How happy would you be then?
Bottom line, let your heart and your interest rule you, not all the “have to’s”.
Ever your Cheerleader,
Robin
